MUSIC VIDEO FEEDBACK

The audience for my music video are people aged 16 – 28 and those who like punk music as this is the genre of the song. To be able to gather in depth feedback on my media projects, I created a questionnaire using Google Forms to achieve this . For my Music Video, I received responses from a variety of people, including people within the target audience but also those who don’t actually listen to punk music. I felt this was needed to be able to get an honest opinion on the video instead of just liking the song due to it being punk and the respondent then liking the video. Also, I felt it was crucial to gather feedback from people outside my target audience also to get a an overall response of the perception fo the music video. 90% of responses said that the music video does fit the punk genre. This is success as then we know we are producing a video for people in the punk genre that will actually like it and relate to it. From comments made on what they liked about the video, it was clear that viewers liked the passion shown in the performance and how the editing was intense and the nature of the story. This was a big part of our video, and for it to succeed in the punk genre, we needed to make sure these elements were produced right which is clear the audience felt it was. Overall, the viewers felt there were no clear problems with the video which is great to hear. One respondent commented on how the transitions could have been smoother, so the group re looked at the video and slight edited this to make sure it was perfect.

Magazine Advert Feedback

Here is some feedback on our music video from people within our exact target audience. From their responses, we learnt that our target audience really liked the finished product. Mentions of good performance and editing was good to see from the group as a lot of effort went into achieving this. We learnt that our target audience liked the black and white colour scheme applied to the video which was intended to fit the genre of the song (punk).

This questionnaire was created to gain feedback on my magazine adverts. From this I gained responses from 70% males which fits my target audience as males stereotypically would like the punk genre more. Also, 70% of people selected 11-20 years old and this is because they are in my school year being 17/18 years’ old which fits my target audience also, as the music produced by the band would be aimed at this age group due to it being loud, aggressive music. This means that if positive responses are collected form the questionnaire then it must mean I have done a good design for my Magazine Adverts. 80% of respondents said that they feel my magazine adverts fit the punk genre, this is a good element as it means that what is being produced would actually be interesting to someone who likes punk music. Every respondent gave a positive comment on their first impression of the magazine adverts. 80% of responses showed that viewers of the magazine adverts felt they were rated between 9-10 out of 10 which indicates that good designs were produced and my target market are satisfied with them which is the aim of the products, meaning I have learnt that not much needs changing. On the other hand, I was given some improvements I could possibly make which would be to make writing on the designs easier to read. I listened to this and did make it a bit easier to read, however I wanted it to be a slighgt struggle to read as it links to the idea of the music video in that “The Hunter” is mysterious and people don’t know who he is.  From comments given on improvements, I also learnt that sizings could be adjusted slightly, from this I went back onto photoshop and double cheked the sizings through using the grid on the software and I actually ound that “RENEGADE” was slightly too small. Form this I learnt that after finshing a design it is crucukial to make sure everything is checked numerous times to make sure the deisgns are professional and meet the demands of an eye ctaching product. Moreover, another comment was not too use design 3, but 1 and 2 are great. This helped me learn what an audience member wants from a piece fo work from within thte punk genre and maybe the effect I added onto design 3 was too much and the simplicity of deisgns 1 and 2 are satisfying for the audience.

CD Digipak Feedback

For my CD Digipak, from my feedback from the questionnaires I learnt that 90% of responses felt the CD Digipak fits the punk genre. Which means my product should interest my target market. Most people’s first impressions were that it is intimidating and looks professional which suggests they felt it was a good design. This thought was backed up by the respondents having to rate the digipak out of 10. 90% of people gave it a score of 9-10 out of 10 which means that I have learnt that only slight changes are needed of the CD Digipak to satisfy my audience fully.  I was advised to make text larger so it was easier to read, which I did amend in my design. As well as this I was advised to remove text from the panel of the band members. However, I decided not to adjust my designs as I felt due to the CD Digipak being the band’s first, I wanted the audience to learn more about the band and know who is who so they are able to create a relationship with their audience. From this I have learnt that audience feedback isn’t always fully correct and decisions made y the designer are made for a reason and therefore them ideas should be pursued The exam board however was influential in my design, due to their expectations of having photography on the designs. As previously I was considering to have graphic images on the CD Digipak, but from this I learnt that photography was essential.

Feedback from outside our target audience

The screenshots above show a conversation between me and a subject teacher in media. I wanted advice concerning a couple of elements shown I the screenshots before went to perform so we didn’t get it wrong. Due to the fact that my media teacher liked punk music, he was a good person to ask and get audience feedback off. He advised us to wear the black clothing colour scheme in the performance videos, which I felt worked better as well due to the colour scheme used on the CD Digipak and Magazine adverts. From this I learnt that it was the right colour scheme for a punk related product. The colour scheme also reflects the nature of the video also. We were also unsure on whether to use the glasses as an accessory due to the fact that it might not allow the audience create a good relationship with the band, being able to connect with them with their eyes could allow this more. However, due to the fact that various bands in the genre wear these type of glasses we decided to go ahead and used them as it gave an identifiable factor for our artists. We learnt that if existing band have used elements and have been successful then there is no problem in replicating that in our own products.

Add record company logo to poster

The text “The Hunter” needs to be more legible.

From this, I learnt that overall my designing elements were fairly good I just needed to be more precise in areas and to make sure elements comply with stereotypical conventions of these products to make them seem more professional.

This screenshot shows comments made from our subject teachers on our draft version of our music video. These are outside our target audience but we felt their opinion was needed to be able to satisfy all viewers. After getting back our feedback, we were told that changes needed to be made to this narrative. We have been told that our video's narrative is to typical and predictable and that it must be more intense, unique and out of the ordinary so it will stand out. From this we learnt that for a horror based narrative, it needs to be different to what is usually expected to capture the audiences attention.
